What is Handy-Jacks?

Handy-Jacks is a locality based web portal of vetted and trained tradespeople and technicians (artisans). Consumers use Handy-jacks to find vetted and trained tradespeople and technicians (artisans) in their local areas while tradespeople and technicians (artisans) get training and then promote their services on Handy-Jacks.

How will my business get here?

Tradespeople and technicians (artisans) get recruited by us to be listed in Handy-Jacks after they have been vetted and received training from us. Alternatively they can add themselves to the web portal through the ‘Enter a Listing’ function found on each page.

Why isn't my business listed first?

Businesses appear at the top of the list according to the package that they subscribe to first, and then in alphabetical order second.

What is the difference between a business email address and an administrator email address?

They can be the same address, but you may wish to use two separate addresses. The business email address will be linked from your company listing page, and will be the address at which you will receive any enquiries from potential customers. The administrator’s email address is the address you will use to log in to your account, and may be used by the Handy-Jacks team to contact you regarding your listing.

Can I email tradespeople and technicians (artisans) listed on Handy-Jacks?

If we have an email address for the tradesperson or technician (artisan), there will be a link on their profile page that allows you to email them directly. Click on this link to email the company. If there is no link, the company has not provided an email address.

How do I add my business details?

You can add your business to Handy-Jacks by simply clicking on the Enter A Listing link on the Homepage, or at the top or bottom of any page on the site. Supply as much information as you can about the services you provide. This is your chance to promote your business, so think about what differentiates you from your competitors and highlight this in your service description.

How do I update/edit my details already on Handy-Jacks?

Simply go to your profile listing, click on the [Update Your Details] button, and follow the instructions. If you do not have your password, enter your email address and hit the [Resend Password] button or contact us directly.

What should I do if I have forgotten my password?

Click on the Login link as the top of the page, or [Update Your Details] on your profile page. Type in your email address and then choose [Reset Password] and you will receive a new password within 48 hours.

Can I change my business description?

Yes. Just go to your company listing, click on the [Update Your Details] button and login. Click [Edit] next to “Service Description” to update that section.

What makes a good trades or service description?

Use this space to tell prospective customers what you do, where you are located, and which localities you service. Think about what a customer might type into a search engine to find you and make sure you use these phrases. Use your company name as frequently as possible, rather than using ‘we’, as search engines respond to the repetition of phrases. A description might read: We are a leading Plumbing Company located in Lagos. We have been serving the area for over 10 years and we look forward to your business. A better description is: Top A Mechanics is a leading auto mechanic located in Lagos, Top A Mechanics attracts clients from all over Lagos. Established for over 10 years, we carry out a range of services, including (x), (y), and (z). Top A Mechanics specialises in Toyotas Hondas and Mercedes Cars. We also carry a large range of spare parts. Top A Mechanic, Auto-Mechanics in Lagos.

What makes a good category?

A category is what the customers will use when searching for your services online. A category must relate to the service areas of your business. There is no limit to the number of categories you can have, but we do vet them to ensure they are relevant. It is in your interest to use appropriate and pertinent categories. The more relevant the category, the more likely your listing is to receive positive hits, which will potentially generate business for you. For example, an engineering company based in Lagos cannot use the category ‘Lagos’ for two reasons:

  • ‘Lagos’ is not a product or service offered by the engineering company
  • People conducting online searches using the category ‘Lagos’ will not be looking for an engineering company

Similarly, a business supplying audio equipment cannot use the category 'sales' as:

  • The word ‘sales’ does not indicate anything specific to the company’s product and service offering
  • People conducting online searches using the category ‘sales’ alone are not likely to be looking for an audio equipment supplier

A good alternative to the category ‘sales’ would be ‘CDs’ or ‘amplifiers’ as these are more representative of the products the business offers.

How do I remove my details on Handy-Jacks?

Simply login through the [Update Your Details] button on your company listing. Once logged in you can change any details you wish to, or remove your listing by clicking the [Remove Listing] button on the right hand side.
